If you have a DeWalt impact driver, chances are at some point you will need to replace this spring. When you pull the nose back to release your bits, this is the spring you are pulling against, which resets the nose back to its original postition. These are known to fly away when repairing your chuck, never to be found again. They can also eventually lose their springyness.
