The driving sleeve is part of the chuck mechanism (SDS‑plus system) that holds the drill bit or chisel firmly, while allowing the hammer function (impact) and rotation to be transmitted properly. It helps guide the bit, keep it aligned, engage / disengage locking / release, and ensures the bit can move (hammer action) but not wobble or slip under load.

This sleeve interacts with the SDS‑plus locking balls / collar, providing a housing or “shell” in which the bit is inserted and held in place. It also aligns the bit’s shank and ensures that the hammer blows are transferred along the correct path.
