This original Makita replacement spare part is a critical component of the cordless drill, and it is made up of three parts: The transmission, clutch, & hammer-drill mechanism. It is responsible for moving the gears for selecting various modes/functions. Common faults with the gear failing can cause issues like the motor & chuck not spinning, a weak clutch, & grinding noises due to the the gear selector accidentally switching between the high & low gears.
